A Municipal Development District (MDD) is a special-purpose political subdivision created by a city to finance and promote development projects that improve the local economy and quality of life. MDDs are funded by a voter-approved sales and use tax and are governed by a board of directors appointed by the city council. Categories of projects that MDDs fund are:
- Economic Growth: MDDs fund projects that attract investment, create jobs, and enhance the local economic base.
Quality of Life: Projects can improve the quality of life for residents and provide social benefits.
Infrastructure: Funds are often used for public infrastructure projects like roads, parking, and other municipal improvements.
Civic Projects: MDDs can finance facilities such as convention centers, auditoriums, and civic centers.
